What: Visitors' book with Hamsuns signature

Where: Fossli Hotel, 5785 Eidfjord, Norway

Here it is: You are in the heart of Hardanger. From Odda you take road 13 with Sørfjorden, Hardangerfjorden and Eidfjorden on your left and Hardangervidda on your right. If you drive in spring, all the fruit trees are blooming in delicate pastel! Then you take road 7 through Eidfjord up to the waterfall Vøringfossen and Måbødalen. Fossli Hotel is situated directly above the waterfall. After having enjoyed Vøringfossen and Fossli Hotel you could continue on road 7 towards the skiing resorts Gol and Geilo.

The hotel is beautifully situated directly above the magnificent Vøringfoss and with a view towards Måbødalen. Having driven the scenic route and having admired the gorge, into which Vøringfossen is throwing itself with thunder and smoke - then you have to enjoy coffee in this classical hotel build in 1891.
Here Knut Hamsun and Marie Hamsun have signed the visitors' book in 1938. On the same page also Lord Rothermere and the actress Myrna Loy have "checked in".
The guestbook is not lying out for public viewing, but one always could ask...

Knut Hamsun sends a telegram to his solicitor Sigrid Stray, dated Vøringsfoss 25. July 1938, with following request: "Please prepare everything for rapid relocation. He is leaving the farm too often and his work. We would like to keep his men." (Hamsun had problem with his lessee).
